Adult Chamber Music Workshop
An immersive week of chamber music, coaching, community — and evening concerts at UMKC's White Concert Hall.

Now in its 13th year, the MAPAA Adult Chamber Music Workshop is one of the region's premier destinations for adult amateur musicians — strings, winds, and keyboard players ages 21 and over — to spend four days doing what we all wish we could do more of: playing chamber music seriously, with excellent coaches, alongside fellow adults who love this repertoire as much as we do.
In 2027, the workshop moves to UMKC Conservatory's Grant Hall as part of MAPAA's 5th Anniversary Legacy Summer Festival. That means your workshop week now includes three professional concerts at White Concert Hall — Festival Faculty Concert (Wednesday), Festival Student Chamber & Faculty Recital (Thursday), and Festival Finale Concert (Friday) — a level of live professional performance access rarely offered to adult amateurs anywhere.

Your Workshop Week
🎼 Four coaching sessions across two full days — Play in pre-assigned mixed chamber ensembles with a professional coach. Ensembles are grouped by instrument, playing level, and repertoire preference.
🎤 Two masterclasses — Faculty-led sessions on ensemble techniques, repertoire, and interpretive challenges.
🎻 Three evening festival concerts at White Concert Hall — Festival Faculty Concert (Wed), Student Chamber & Faculty Recital (Thu), and Festival Finale Concert (Fri).
🍷 Opening reception at Amigoni Winery — Kick off the week with wine, hors d'oeuvres, and fellow chamber musicians.
🍽️ Community meals — Breakfast and lunch together every day. Chamber music happens as much in the hallway conversations as in the coaching room.
🎯 Workshop Trivia Competition — Because good chamber music workshops need at least one perfect excuse to laugh together.
✨ Culminating concert — Perform on Friday afternoon for family, friends, and the festival community. Not a competition — a celebration of the week you just built.
