About Us:
The women of Smokie Mountain Melodies, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, share a love of singing and performing a capella music in four-part harmony, barbershop style. The barbershop style lends itself to songs from any era – ballads, gospel, show tunes, even jazz. We draw members from Union, Towns, and Fannin Counties in Georgia, and Cherokee and Clay Counties in North Carolina, and we’re always looking for more divas.
The full chorus has performed throughout the Mountain area. Quartets are also available for smaller venues. Visit our website at www.smokiemountainmelodies.com.
The Show:
A highlight of each year is “Front Row Center,”our annual show, held in May. The 2010 show was subtitled “A Blast from the Past.” Chorus members donned saddle shoes and poodle skirts, and other garb from the ‘40s,‘50s and ‘60s, to perform songs that brought back memories for anyone old enough to remember those years. Music from Broadway shows will be featured at the May 2011 show.
Joining Smokie Mountain Melodies: We practice every Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 9:00pm at the First United Methodist Church of Union County on Highway 515 in Blairsville, GA...just down the road from North Georgia Technical College. If you love barbershop music and can carry a tune, join us.
